Researchers Find That Older Motorists Are Driving Safer This Year
As the younger generations are spiraling out of control, texting behind the wheel and drink driving, it appears that the older generations are getting their act together. In the past, drivers who are over the age of 70 have had their driving abilities scrutinized.
According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), drivers who are over the age of 75 are the most at-risk age group on the roadways. Much of this is due to declines in reaction times, vision and memory.
In the past, state legislatures have been wary of instituting an age limit for driver’s licenses because the older drivers aggressively try to protect their freedoms. Boise Bus Driver In Hot Water Over Car Accident
In early January, a city bus drove off of the road and into the headquarters of Idaho Power. The bus struck a decorative pillar before coming to a teetering rest over a parking garage entrance. Originally, it was speculated that the bus’s brakes failed, causing the accident.
According to the Idaho Statesman, dash camera footage that captured the accident has surfaced and seems to depict the driver, Fatangia Moala, falling asleep just before the crash. A police investigation also found no evidence of brake failure. Moala currently faces a misdemeanor negligent-driving charge and could be named as a defendant in a personal-injury lawsuit by an injured passenger.
