In an effort the lower the number of accidents that take place every year caused by driver fatigue, the U.S. Department of Transportation is planning to put in place a new law that would require drivers to use digital travel logs.
A recent report suggested that quieter electric cars pose a silent hazard to pedestrians—especially blind pedestrians. According to the Daily Mail, pedestrians are 40% more likely to be struck by a quiet hybrid or electric car. Blind pedestrians and their guide dogs are most at risk because they cannot perceive a vehicle they cannot hear.
Biking is a great way to get around town and to get exercise. Unfortunately, every year, countless people are injured when they are hit by drivers while biking on Boise and Nampa’s roadways. The Idaho Statesman recently reported on the tragic injuries sustained by a Boise 5-year-old boy when he was struck by a mini-van while riding his bike. Despite speed limit restrictions and a four-way stop with flashing red lights, the driver failed to stop and dragged the boy for several seconds even after he was struck.
According to the Journal of Empirical Legal Studies, most states and jurisdictions allow families to collect pain and suffering in wrongful death lawsuits. Yet, while many jurisdictions allow families to collect these damages, some jurisdictions, like Boise, don’t allow a victim’s loved ones to seek pain and suffering in a wrongful death lawsuit.
